Chapter 1053: My Tenant is a Human

Over the next period of time, Mikayla took Qiao Sang to check out almost every property in the vicinity that met their training requirements, viewing around a dozen rental villas.

Unfortunately, not a single one was able to catch Mikayla's eye. Either they were positioned too close to the neighbors, offering poor soundproofing for training, or the owner of the villa was a pet who required cohabitation, refusing to lease the property out entirely.

"Why is it that basically all the houses owned by pets are shared rentals?"

Qiao Sang finally couldn't resist griping: "Furthermore, the listings on the platform didn't even state it clearly in their introductions."

Mikayla pondered for a few seconds before replying, "There wasn't such a situation back when I used to rent houses on Flame Star, but pets are essentially illiterate. The content published on there is automatically generated after taking photos of the house. They probably just sub-consciously clicked 'Lease' by default."

Pausing for a moment, she cast an imperceptible glance at Qingbao and added, "Actually, that Zhedaguai's house from this morning was quite excellent. Zhedaguai dislike appearing before people, so if we rented her house, it definitely wouldn't be a shared rental."

"Qing qing."

Qingbao blinked her large, innocent eyes.

Qiao Sang let out a cough, steering the conversation away from the Zhedaguai: "How about we go check out the suburbs? The villas in the suburbs are spaced far apart and have good soundproofing, so training won't disturb those nearby. Little Treasure can use Spatial Shift anyway, so it shouldn't matter much if we live a bit further away; it's convenient to get anywhere regardless."

Mikayla countered in a heavy tone:

"No. The purpose of your visit here isn't entirely for training, nor is it for competitions, but rather to search for the fortuitous opportunity predicted by the Fate Spirit. The suburbs have very few people and pets, if we stay in that kind of place, we might end up spending the entire day doing nothing but training. How are you supposed to find your opportunity then?"

Qiao Sang blanked out for a moment: "Does an opportunity actually require one to look for it themselves? Won't it actively deliver itself to my doorstep?"

Mikayla: ...

"When you were in the Central Hollow Region, if you hadn't registered to participate in the Regional Championship, how would you have evolved Lubao and the others, and how would you have contracted Qing qing?" Mikayla pointed out.

That's true... Qiao Sang was successfully persuaded.

Mikayla retrieved her phone, glanced at the time displayed on the screen, and said:

"Let's eat first. We'll resume the search after eating."

Qiao Sang naturally had no objections.

The two arrived at a nearby restaurant.

In the restaurants here, regardless of the style or flavor, both humans and pets could almost always place orders.

The moment Qiao Sang stepped inside, she spotted quite a few pets sitting together in groups, enjoying their food.

Finding a large table by the window to sit down at, they placed their orders, and the food was swiftly brought over by the server.

Yabao, Little Treasure, and Tingbao devoured their food ravenously.

On the other hand, Lubao, Gangbao, and Qingbao displayed considerably more elegant table manners.

Spengami held a knife and fork, slowly cutting the meat on her plate with great poise.

While eating, Mikayla kept her phone out to browse the platform for available rental properties nearby.

Qiao Sang took a sip of soup and suggested: "If we really can't find a house, let's just go ahead and share a rental with a pet. I notice they usually wear lightweight miniature bracelets anyway, so moving about shouldn't affect us much."

Mikayla rejected the idea without a second thought:

"We're the ones renting a house, so who would want to live together with the landlord? Don't let the fact that they're pets fool you, sometimes when they start making a fuss, they can be even more troublesome than humans. Furthermore, I can't help but feel that this trend of pets seeking humans for shared rentals is a bit off."

Hearing this, Qiao Sang refrained from saying anything further and concentrated on her meal.

Professor Mikayla possessed far more social experience than she did; if she said something was off, then there was bound to be an issue.

Suddenly, the conversation from the neighboring table drifted into her ears: "I want to break the lease too, but if I pull out now, that Gem Coral refuses to refund my security deposit."

"It's only a single month's deposit anyway; worst-case scenario, just write it off. There's no reason you should have to cook and clean for it every single day. If you ask me, these wild pets have simply been watching way too many TV dramas lately."

"That's easy to say, but if it weren't for that TV drama, these wild pets wouldn't have thought about putting their living spaces up for rent in the first place. Speaking of which, houses have actually been much easier to find lately. Forget it, a bit of hard work is just a bit of hard work, who told them to offer such cheap rent anyway?"

The topic of rent concluded there as the two switched to a different subject.

Her curiosity piqued, Qiao Sang leaned over and inquired: "What TV drama?"

The people at the neighboring dining table looked over.

One of the middle-aged men didn't catch on right away: "What what TV drama?"

"The TV drama you two were just talking about, the one that made wild pets put their houses up for rent after watching it." Qiao Sang clarified.

"It's called My Tenant is a Human. It's been quite popular among pets lately." The man answered.

What a name... Qiao Sang offered her thanks, turned around to pull out her phone, opened a search engine, and typed in those words.

The page loaded, and the relevant content appeared.

Qiao Sang skimmed through the plot summary and some related reviews, discovering that it was a TV drama depicting a shared rental between a human and a wild pet.

The human had gone out to forge a path in the world, and by a stroke of luck, rented a place to stay. The owner of the house was a wild pet, a Rascal Rabbit.

The Rascal Rabbit had a poor temperament, lacked talent, and was thoroughly lazy, but the human possessed an excellent temper, even helping to clean the house and prepare energy meals.

The relationship between the person and the pet grew better and better over time.

Later on, the human participated in a battle tournament, secured the championship, and achieved overnight fame.

The wild pets in the surrounding area all flocked over wanting to contract with him, but the human rejected them one by one. He sought out the Rascal Rabbit, revealing that he actually wished to contract with it.

Deeply moved, the Rascal Rabbit shed its previous listlessness. However, it didn't give an answer right away, stating instead that it would provide its response in a week.

It secretly registered for a highly popular tournament broadcast.

It had originally planned to contract with the human after achieving victory, but to its surprise, it was eliminated right in the preliminary rounds.

This tournament program was incredibly popular, nearly every human and pet watched it.

The moment the Rascal Rabbit stepped outside, it was mocked. Stricken by the blow, it shut itself inside and refused to leave.

When the one-week deadline arrived, the human tenant inquired about its thoughts.

The Rascal Rabbit blanked out at first, then showed him the video of its elimination from the preliminary rounds.

The human thought nothing of it, expressing that he didn't care.

Moved beyond measure, the Rascal Rabbit contracted with him, and the human and pet went out to forge a path in the world together.

The End.

Qiao Sang: ...

To think that wild pets actually enjoy watching this type of TV drama... Qiao Sang remained silent for a long time, putting away her phone to resume eating.

At that moment, Mikayla looked at the content retrieved on her phone and chuckled: "So those wild pets put their houses up for rent precisely because they watched this TV drama. This isn't looking for tenants at all, they are clearly looking for Beast Tamers they want to contract with."

Since she had overheard the conversation, Professor Mikayla naturally could as well. Qiao Sang wasn't surprised that Professor Mikayla knew about the TV drama, but she immediately thought of something and asked: "Wild pets can purchase real estate here, but if a Beast Tamer contracts with one, who does the house belong to?"

"It belongs to both the pet and the Beast Tamer who contracted it." Mikayla explained.

"However, it's essentially impossible for a pet to buy a house entirely in cash. If the house purchased by the pet still has a mortgage at the time of the contract, that mortgage will naturally fall upon the Beast Tamer who contracts it."

Holy crap, no wonder those wild pets are buying villas one after another. Turns out as long as they find a Beast Tamer to contract with, the mortgage disappears... Qiao Sang said no more and continued devouring her food.

After finishing their meal, Mikayla took Qiao Sang and finally located a house that met all their requirements.

It occupied a massive surface area with plenty of rooms, even if Yabao and the others were each given a room to stay in, there would still be vacancies. It featured a dedicated open-air training field, maintained a great distance from the adjacent properties, and offered excellent soundproofing.

Most importantly, the landlord was a human.

They signed the contract, paid the money, and were handed the keys.

That very evening, Qiao Sang and Mikayla moved in.

"Yap yap!"

"Xun xun~"

"Qing qing."

Yabao, Little Treasure, and Qingbao roamed cheerfully through the villa, familiarizing themselves with the environment.

Gangbao fanned her wings beside her Beast Tamer, sizing up the surroundings.

Tingbao stayed right by Lubao's side, occasionally rubbing against her and wearing a comfortable expression.

Lubao, meanwhile, stood in place expressionlessly.

While arranging her belongings, Qiao Sang remarked with emotion, "I didn't expect the rent for such an excellent location to be this cheap."

This area was considered the core zone of the Qianrui District. When looking at properties nearby earlier, they generally cost nearly 2,000 Alliance Coins more per month.

"The cheaper it is, the more it indicates that there's some sort of issue with the house." Mikayla stated slowly.

Hearing this, Qiao Sang recalled how her very first rental had also been considerably lower in rent precisely because of Lubao, and she couldn't help but smile: "Having an issue is great. What presents an issue for others might just turn out to be a fortuitous opportunity for me."

This mindset is quite good... A look of satisfaction surfaced on Mikayla's face.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang.

"Xun xun~"

Little Treasure teleported to the front door, peered at the monitor, and then swung the door open.

"Mei mei."

Standing at the doorway was a pet roughly one and a half meters in size. Its entire body was predominantly green, with the two lobes of leaves atop its head fully spread out. It possessed a pair of rose-red eyes, two slender arms, and wore a black identity bracelet around its claw. It also had foot-like appendages.

At this moment, it was cradling a bouquet of rose-red flowers, letting out a sweet-sounding call with a smile.

Meichouni, a high-level Grass-type pet. It looks beautiful, but it emits a foul odor from its body... Data regarding the pet at the door flashed through Qiao Sang's mind.

"Xun xun?"

Little Treasure revealed a puzzled expression, letting out a call.

"Mei mei."

Upon seeing Little Treasure, Meichouni's brow furrowed imperceptibly before smoothing over as it let out a call.

"Xun xun~"

Little Treasure called out, indicating that this house had already been rented and the original owner wasn't around.

"Mei mei..."

Meichouni's face fell. Immediately after, it spotted the two humans inside and forced its smile back on. It then shoved the flowers into Little Treasure's arms, pointed to the side, turned around, and departed.

"Xun xun..."

Little Treasure stared in the direction of Meichouni's departure for a moment. After closing the door firmly, he lowered his head to take a sniff.

The next second, displaying a thoroughly disgusted expression that screamed so stinky, he held the flowers a bit further away, though he ultimately didn't throw them out.

"Was that Meichouni looking for the landlord?" Qiao Sang inquired based on Little Treasure's prior response.

"Xun xun~"

Little Treasure nodded his head and let out a call, explaining that the Meichouni mentioned it lived in the house right next door and even noted that they could keep in touch often in the future.

So it's a neighbor, and it seems quite friendly... Qiao Sang thought to herself.

"Xun xun..."

Little Treasure placed the flowers into a vase on the coffee table.

He stared at it for a couple of seconds, then, holding his breath, used telekinesis to relocate the vase to a corner of the room.

"Xun xun..."

The air freshened up instantly, and Little Treasure let out a sigh of relief.

---

The villa next door.

Meichouni walked into the dimly lit room and switched on the light.

The room flooded with bright light.

The wall directly ahead was completely covered with photographs of different people. Some of the photos were marked with red crosses, while others were not.

Meichouni stepped forward, picked up a red marker from the table, and drew a cross over one of the photographs.

The man in the photo sported a clean buzz cut, his facial lines sharp and rugged.

If Qiao Sang were present at this moment, she would discover that the person in this photograph was precisely the landlord who had leased the villa to them not long ago.

Following that, it recalled the two humans who had newly arrived at the villa next door, and its eyes flared with a green light.

---

At the same exact time.

Inside the rented villa, a rose-red eye abruptly snapped open amidst the flowers placed in the corner of the living room.

"Yap yap!"

Yabao, who had just finished touring the villa, returned to the living room. His excited expression crumpled into a ball, and he hurriedly used his claws to cover his nose from the stench.

He sniffed around, his gaze settling upon the vase in the corner.

Having locked onto his target, Yabao opened his mouth, and flames instantly coalesced within it.

"Xun xun!"

Seeing this, Little Treasure hurriedly let out a call.

"Yap yap..."

Yabao closed his mouth, cast a disgusted look at the flowers in the vase, and his eyes flared with a blue light as he moved it out onto the open-air training field outside.

The rose-red eye closed, reverting back to the appearance of a flower bud.

"Mei mei..."

Inside the room covered in photographs, the green light within Meichouni's eyes vanished, returning to their rose-red color.

Its expression turned unsightly. Turning around, it switched off the light and departed from the room.

---

The open-air training field.

Gangbao opened her mouth, black energy cloaking her sharp teeth.

Simultaneously, a terrifying, giant illusory silhouette measuring dozens of meters wide manifested ahead, biting down toward the dark grey stone on the ground.

Bang!

A loud crash resounded as an airwave swept through, kicking up a flurry of dust before the silhouette vanished.

Once everything settled back into tranquility, that block of dark grey stone on the ground remained completely unscathed.

"Not bad, Gangbao. She has already initially mastered Abyss Bite." Mikayla remarked with emotion.

"I didn't expect that after so much time has passed, she would still remember how to execute this skill."

While they were on the starship, Gangbao could only proficiently cloak her sharp teeth with Dark-type energy, making it difficult to produce the illusory silhouette.

Consequently, this move hadn't been practiced much over the past month and a half. In Mikayla's view, Gangbao had barely managed to touch the threshold of this move back when she was in the United Kingdom.

"Gangbao is naturally smart." Qiao Sang said with a smile.

Hearing the conversation, Tingbao came down from the block of ice Lubao had condensed for him. He specifically crawled over to a spot where Qiao Sang could see him, gathering energy as crackling yellow electrical arcs instantly surfaced across his body.

Differing from before, the yellow electrical arcs scattered in all directions, striking the surroundings and causing the soil to explode in small clusters.

Once the skill execution concluded, Tingbao puffed out his chest, seemingly waiting for praise.

"However, if she wants to reach the level where she can devour Blunt Craft Stones, she still needs to train this skill to the Mastery rank." Mikayla continued.

"Understood." Qiao Sang nodded.

"You mentioned that previously, Professor."

"Lei lei..."

Seeing that no one was paying attention to him, Tingbao began to shift around, moving to a closer position. Yellow electrical arcs surfaced across his body once more, striking down at the surroundings.

Mikayla pulled out her phone to check the time, stating: "Don't train too late tonight. Come with me to a certain place tomorrow."

"Alright." Qiao Sang didn't ask where they were going either, simply nodding her head directly.

Mikayla turned and walked away.

Qiao Sang looked toward Gangbao, who was currently training.

"Lei lei..."

Tingbao displayed a dissatisfied expression. Shifting his position yet again to draw closer to Qiao Sang, he increased his energy output, causing yellow electrical arcs to surge across his body and strike down across a small radius around him.

Qiao Sang's line of sight finally shifted over.

Tingbao's spirits rallied as he puffed out his chest.

Who went and made him angry again... Qiao Sang's gaze quickly swept around in a circle. She then walked over to the side of the ice block, picked it up, and placed it right in front of Tingbao, saying: "The ice block is right here. Cool down your temper."

Tingbao: ...
