Chapter 41

Sun Xinrong thought she would be able to contact Li Xi quickly. However, not only did he block her, but he also avoided her for two or three days, leaving her unable to even catch a glimpse of him.

To see him, she even skipped classes and went to the places where he attended lectures, only to find out he had also taken a leave of absence!

The campus is not that big, and the courses for each major are fixed. Although Li Xi is often absent due to managing his company, he shouldn’t be that hard to find!

Moreover, there's Yuan Chu, who loves studying and never skips classes. As long as she keeps an eye on Yuan Chu, she should be able to see Li Xi, right?

However, Yuan Chu was not easy to track. She could be easily found during classes or experiments, but as soon as class ended, she would blend into the crowd and disappear without a trace.

Sun Xinrong felt like she had been blocked by that pair of siblings. Their presence was everywhere on campus, yet she always missed them perfectly, leaving her extremely frustrated.

The mastermind behind this situation was naturally Yuan Chu. She could foresee Sun Xinrong's movements in advance and then find ways to make Li Xi change his location.

Sun Xinrong couldn't afford to waste all her time on them, so as long as they dodged her a few times, it would be enough.

Of course, this was not a long-term solution. Tomorrow afternoon, Gong Xiaoqin will have a minor car accident and be hospitalized, and Sun Xinrong will finally give up.

The next day, Yuan Chu received a text message from Li Xi during class, saying that he had to leave school early to discuss a business deal and would pick her up in the evening.

Yuan Chu didn’t think much of it until she accidentally overheard Gong Xiaoqin’s name, and a bad feeling suddenly came over her. She stood up abruptly and left the classroom without a second thought.

She had no idea that Li Xi’s business partner turned out to be Gong Xiaoqin’s father.

Generally speaking, a person’s fate is difficult to change, but it's different for those with great luck; they always manage to break the predetermined path of destiny.

Yuan Chu didn’t have the ability to foresee everything at all times. She only glimpsed into the future when something stirred her.

When Gong Xiaoqin had her accident, she was with her father. Who would have thought that Li Xi would also be in the car?

Yuan Chu immediately prepared to call Li Xi, but as soon as she unlocked her phone, her movements froze.

A dangerous premonition made her pupils contract; it was the oppressive force from the heavens, like an all-seeing eye watching over everything in the world.

This car accident was obviously part of the heavens' plan, so she couldn’t contact Li Xi directly.

After some thought, Yuan Chu’s mind shifted, and a text message automatically sent to Sun Xinrong’s phone: [Do you still want to bet against Gong Xiaoqin? I can help you, but only for today.]

She still had Sun Xinrong’s number on her phone, but they rarely contacted each other after their last unpleasant encounter.

When she sent the message, Sun Xinrong happened to be on her phone. Upon seeing the message, she immediately replied sarcastically: [Aren’t you only good at playing pool? What use are you to me?]

[If you can contact Gong Xiaoqin immediately, I guarantee that you’ll win no matter what you bet on.]

[You little brat, you’re so young, but you sure talk big. Why should I believe you?] Sun Xinrong had been chasing them for two or three days without success, so she was even more unwilling when they contacted her first.

[If you lose, I’ll take the punishment for you. If you win, you’ll give me 40,000 yuan.] Yuan Chu knew that if she didn’t offer something enticing, Sun Xinrong would be suspicious.

Sure enough, Sun Xinrong was tempted. Forty thousand yuan was just half a month’s allowance for her, and as long as she could beat Gong Xiaoqin, she would agree to anything.

Besides, even if she lost, that girl would take the punishment for her, so what did she have to worry about?

So she agreed: [Fine, I’ll notify Gong Xiaoqin now.]

[Remember to mention my name to her. Also, I’ll decide the location of the bet.] Yuan Chu added.

Sun Xinrong was puzzled. Had Gong Xiaoqin offended Yuan Chu? Otherwise, why would she take the initiative to provoke her?

While pondering this, she dialed Gong Xiaoqin’s number.

At that moment, Li Xi and Gong Xiaoqin’s father had just finished a meal and reached a preliminary agreement on cooperation, leaving both sides in high spirits.

As they left the hotel, Gong’s father noticed that Li Xu seemed to be about to hail a cab and asked, "Xiao Li, didn’t you drive?"

"The car is in for maintenance."

"Where are you headed? I’ll give you a lift," Gong’s father offered warmly. He had a good impression of this young man and even had the intention of matchmaking him with his daughter.

That’s why he specifically invited her to join them today. Judging by her expression, it seemed she was also interested in him.

Li Xi hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Thank you, Uncle Gong. I’m going to Qing University."

"Perfect, my daughter attends the neighboring art school, so it’s nearby."

As they spoke, the Gong family’s car slowly approached.

At the same time, Gong Xiaoqin’s phone rang.

She glanced at the caller ID, smiled, and answered, "Oh, Miss Sun, what’s up? … What? A bet? Aren’t you afraid of losing again? Hahaha, sure, I’m always up for it. Tell me the time and place … No problem. What? Yuan Chu? You’re bringing that little girl again? Besides playing pool, what else can she do? You’re really regressing…”

Li Xi was about to get into the car when he suddenly heard the name Yuan Chu and froze.

"…Haha, if you’re not afraid, why should I be? It’s settled then. I’ll be there soon." Gong Xiaoqin hung up and noticed Li Xi staring at her intently, causing her cheeks to flush.

"Miss Gong, do you have plans with your friends?" Li Xi asked.

"Yes." Gong Xiaoqin smiled shyly, a stark contrast to her earlier arrogance.

"I overheard you mention a bet. It sounds interesting. Mind if I join?" Li Xi’s face remained calm, but his eyes held a hint of danger.

"Of course, you’re welcome to join." Gong Xiaoqin was thrilled. From what she knew, Li Xi was the person Sun Xinrong liked.

If she could win him over, she wondered how furious Sun Xinrong would be. She was looking forward to it.

Gong’s father observed the interaction and smiled. "Since Xiao Li is interested, let Xiaoqin take you there. I’ll have the driver drop you off."

"No need, Dad," Gong Xiaoqin waved her hand dismissively. "The place we’re meeting is nearby. We can walk there in a few minutes."

"Alright then. Take good care of Xiao Li, and don’t neglect him."

"Got it, Dad. You’re so nagging." After saying goodbye to her father, Gong Xiaoqin reached out to link arms with Li Xi

Li Xi sidestepped and asked, "Where are you meeting?"

"At the simulation shooting range just ahead."

Yuan Chu had once told Sun Xinrong, "Every time you make a bet, you choose a comprehensive entertainment venue, draw lots to decide participants, and pick random games. There are too many uncertainties. If you really want to win, pick a single game that you’re confident in."

She chose this shooting range for another reason: it was close to the hotel where Li Xi and Gong Xiaoqin were, so they wouldn’t need to drive.

Thirty minutes later, Sun Xinrong arrived at the shooting range with Yuan Chu and a few friends.

Yuan Chu wasn’t worried about winning or losing; she was more concerned about how to calm Li Xi’s anger afterward.

She had promised him not to interact with Sun Xinrong anymore, yet here she was, breaking that promise within days.

"You’re so slow," Gong Xiaoqin immediately taunted Sun Xinrong upon seeing her.

"You were just too fast, rushing to reincarnate," Sun Xinrong shot back, but her face changed when she noticed a familiar figure.

"Li Xi, what are you doing here?" And sitting with Gong Xiaoqin, no less!

Li Xi ignored her, his deep eyes fixed on Yuan Chu as she entered.

"Brother," Yuan Chu greeted him.

Li Xi responded with a cold, emotionless "Hmm."

Yuan Chu sat beside him and whispered in his ear, "Don’t be mad. We’ll leave soon."

"Leave?" Li Xi glanced at her. "Aren’t you here to compete with them?"

"No need," Yuan Chu said confidently.

Li Xi was too angry to think about her words. He just wanted to take her home and teach her a lesson.

What happened to the promise of not interacting with Sun Xinrong? What happened to not going out with strangers? Little liar!

Meanwhile, Sun Xinrong and Gong Xiaoqin had already started arguing, setting the stakes for their bet and preparing to face off in the game.

Just then, Gong Xiaoqin’s phone rang. Annoyed, she answered, "What? Dad was in a car accident? How is he?... Okay, I understand."

Gong Xiaoqin quickly hung up the phone and said to Sun Xinrong, "We can't hang out today. Let's reschedule."

Although Sun Xinrong was unhappy, she didn't make things difficult and simply said, "You owe me one."

Gong Xiaoqin snorted, didn't say goodbye, and hurriedly left.

"Well, since we're already here, let's just enjoy ourselves." Sun Xinrong's gaze fell on Li Xi.

"Li Xi, how did you end up with Gong Xiaoqin?"

Li Xi pulled Yuan Chu to her feet. "We have something to do, so we'll be leaving."

"Wait." Sun Xinrong blocked their way.

"It's rare that we meet up. Stay and have some fun."

"Not interested," Li Xi responded coldly.

Sun Xinrong suppressed her anger. "But you're interested in hanging out with Gong Xiaoqin?"

"That's none of your business."

Sun Xinrong was furious, pointing at Yuan Chu. "You can leave, but Yuan Chu has to stay."

Li Xi looked at her coldly.

"Yuan Chu promised to help me with a bet against Gong Xiaoqin. If I win, I'll give her 40,000 yuan.”

Li Nian looked at Yuan Chu with a deep gaze: 40,000? Have I ever left you hungry or unclothed? And you'd sell your soul for 40,000 yuan?

Yuan Chu calmly replied, "I remember I had one condition- only today."

Sun Xinrong's face changed slightly, recalling the agreement, but she didn't want to miss the opportunity. She tried to cheat, saying, "I don't care. You must help me with the bet. Otherwise, I won't let you leave today."

Li Xi sneered, "What, you plan to keep her here by force?"

"That's right." Sun Xinrong pointed to her friends, "There are only two of you, but we have four or five people. If you want to take her, let's see if you've got the guts."

She had reached a breaking point-if being nice didn't work, then she'd win by force.

Anger and disgust were better than being treated as invisible.

Li Xi stared at Sun Xinrong coldly, feeling for the first time the urge to hit a woman.

Yuan Chu knew that Li Xi wasn't particularly strong. Although Yuan Chu worked out regularly, her physique was weaker than most, unable to handle high-intensity activities. She had brought bodyguards, but they were waiting outside.

She had a thought, and her phone, in her pocket, automatically sent a message to the bodyguards outside. It would take them a few minutes to come in and help.

At that moment, Sun Xinrong's people had already started surrounding Li Xi and Yuan Chu. They approached playfully, joking as they tried to grab them, not taking it seriously.

But Li Xi wasn't in the mood for jokes. He protected Yuan Chu with one arm and suddenly kicked hard at the nearest person, sending him flying several meters.

He might not be strong, but he had a ruthless streak. Even if it cost him half his life, he would still take a piece of his enemy with him.

The others were stunned at first, then grew angry.

Most of the people hanging out with Sun Xinrong were second-generation heirs with some money, used to being arrogant. Losing face like this was something they couldn't tolerate.

Most of them didn't know Li Xi's identity. Seeing how young he was, they figured it wouldn't matter if they beat him up, they could always have their families smooth things over.

Just as they were about to attack, they suddenly heard a crash. Glass shattered everywhere. Yuan Chu held half of a broken bottle, pressing it against the neck of a young man.

A delicate, slender wrist was cut by the shards, and crimson blood slowly trickled down.

"Xiao Chu!" A storm brewed in Li Xi's eyes, dark and terrifying.

The young man tried to retreat, but Yuan Chu, whether intentionally or not, tripped him, causing him to fall backward and hit his head on a table. His vision blurred, and he was temporarily incapacitated.

Yuan Chu stepped on his chest, holding the dripping bottle, her expression fierce as she surveyed the room.

She had worked hard to help her protagonist avoid a car accident and didn't want to see him get beaten up again.

No one could touch the person she was protecting!

Everyone: Damn, why does this feel both humiliating and oddly cool?

The scene became tense.

Yuan Chu glanced at the door and tossed the bottle aside. "Brother, let's go."

Just as she finished speaking, the bodyguards appeared at the door.

Li Xi pulled a few tissues from a tube and pressed them against Yuan Chu's wound, his expression dark.

Yuan Chu thought: Uh-oh, my Child of Destiny is about to lose it.
