Amidst the discussions of the crowd, the light-shadow of the number "3" appeared on the field, accompanied by a mechanical voice counting down.
"3, 2, 1, Match Start."
The light-shadow vanished.
Almost simultaneously, all the pets sprang into action.
The camera focused on the field where Tingbao and Shell Snail were battling.
As the only remaining Dragon-type pet on the field, along with being one of the few Mid-level pets among those brought by registered contestants, this match was clearly drawing the highest attention in this round.
On the field.
Rows of yellow electrical arcs surfaced across Tingbao's body. As his tail whipped once, the lightning flickered like flying snakes, converging forward into a bolt that struck down furiously toward Shell Snail.
Simultaneously, Shell Snail opened its mouth, and a striking torrent of flames abruptly shot forth.
The fire beam rushed rapidly through midair, colliding with the yellow lightning and bursting into a localized shockwave.
The shockwave briefly obscured Tingbao's vision.
When the shockwave dispersed, he discovered that his opponent was no longer in its original spot. Exposing a vigilant expression, he looked left and right.
At this moment, Qiao Sang spoke up: "Move."
Instinctively, Tingbao moved his body rapidly.
The very instant he moved forward, a crimson flame attacked the position where he had been standing just moments ago.
While moving, Tingbao turned his head slightly. Out of the corner of his eye, he glimpsed his opponent, which had appeared to the left of the spot where he originally stood without him noticing when it happened.
Almost out of instinct, Tingbao realized that the opponent before him was going to be tricky to deal with.
"Flame Wall." A red-haired girl who looked to be around twenty years old called out.
"Huo ke!"
Shell Snail let out a loud cry, and a splendid wave of flames rapidly erupted from its shell. The fire did not take an offensive shape, but instead swiftly ignited the surroundings, forming a ring of fire only thirty centimeters or so in height.
Tingbao's speed couldn't match the formation speed of the fire wall, and he found himself trapped right in the middle.
Flame Wall, a Mid-level Fire-type skill. Traps the opponent within fire to limit its movements... Details of this skill flashed through Qiao Sang's mind, and she couldn't help but analyze it.
It was indeed somewhat troublesome, but the level of Shell Snail's Flame Wall was clearly not high. At this height, Tingbao could easily use physical strength to leap over it.
However, leaping was out of the question, the moment he tried to jump out, Shell Snail would definitely seize the opportunity to attack. Luckily, a Flame Wall at this proficiency level shouldn't be able to last very long...
In the guest panel area.
"Shell Snail used Flame Wall to trap Tingbao." Fu Jian stated the current situation on the field.
"I wonder how Contestant Qiao Sang will respond next." Fyodor commented with interest.
"Tie tie."
Tie Daoyi similarly expressed anticipation.
The Flame Wall will dissipate, but if Shell Snail continues to execute Flame Wall from within to shrink the radius further, that would be bad... Qiao Sang thought to herself.
In the span of a flashing thought, splendid waves of fire erupted continuously from Shell Snail's shell.
The flames ignited the ground around them, linking together with the original Flame Wall.
Tingbao moved constantly, dodging the flames abruptly igniting on the ground.
As more and more sections of the Flame Wall were joined together, the space he could maneuver in shrank smaller and smaller.
Very quickly, a area roughly two meters around Tingbao was entirely covered in fire, rendering him unable to move any further.
From the audience's perspective, Field #3 looked like a burning honeycomb of fire, with both Tingbao and Shell Snail trapped inside it.
In the guest panel area.
Fu Jian marveled: "To think Shell Snail could construct its Flame Wall to such an extent."
"Using the continuous expansion of the Flame Wall to restrict the opponent's movable range smaller and smaller is a disguise to enhance the Flame Wall itself." Fyodor analyzed.
"Tie tie."
Tie Daoyi nodded in agreement.
"The current situation appears extremely unfavorable for Contestant Qiao Sang." Fu Jian remarked.
Fyodor said in a deep voice: "Ever since being matched with Shell Snail, she hasn't been on the advantageous side of this match. But even so, I still want to see how she and Little Thunder Dragon will counterattack. Given Contestant Qiao Sang's past command style, I believe she won't just sit and wait for defeat."
"Tie tie."
Tie Daoyi nodded his head.
Up in the spectator stands, the audience refrained from excessive chatter, all waiting to see how Tingbao would retaliate.
In their eyes, the winner and loser had already been decided, it was only a matter of how they would lose.
In this type of tournament, the synergy between a Beast Tamer and an uncontracted pet was what they wanted to see most.
On the field, feeling the surrounding heat, Tingbao's body tensed up, his expression looking at his opponent with vigilance.
"Time to end this." The red-haired girl shouted.
"Flamethrower!"
Simultaneously, Qiao Sang said in a calm tone: "Strike the fire wall."
Strike the fire wall? The red-haired girl blanked out for a moment, then seemingly realized something, her heart tightening.
No way...
Could it be that she plans to have Little Thunder Dragon attack the fire wall?
As she was thinking, Shell Snail opened its mouth, crimson flames instantly condensing within its gullet.
At the exact same time, rows of yellow electrical arcs surfaced across Tingbao's body, rapidly converging into a bolt of lightning that struck forward at high speed.
The flames and lightning traveled parallel to each other, without colliding into each other.
Bang!
A loud crash resounded as the flames struck Tingbao head-on.
Almost simultaneously, the power of the lightning struck the fire wall surrounding Shell Snail, bursting into terrifying flames and a shockwave.
Boom!
An airwave swept out in all directions.
"Huo ke!"
Positioned closest to the blast, Shell Snail caught the severe impact, shrieking as it was sent flying backward.
The Flame Wall collapsed and scattered.
The red-haired girl's pupils shrank.
The entire venue fell silent for 0.5 seconds before clamor erupted.
"Holy crap! It can actually be used like that?! Why didn't I think of that just now!"
"Using the Flame Wall to attack Shell Snail, that's incredible!"
"Contestant Qiao Sang doesn't look old, but her mind works insanely fast!"
"Under such a strong shockwave, Shell Snail definitely won't be able to stand back up."
"Who won this match?"
"Hard to say. Shell Snail's defense is mediocre, but its Flamethrower also hit Little Thunder Dragon head-on. It feels like a tie."
In the guest panel area.
Fu Jian exclaimed in admiration:
"Striking the Discharge against the Flame Wall surrounding Shell Snail and using the resulting shockwave to attack Shell Snail, this power is far greater than executing a direct Discharge onto its body! To come up with this so quickly, Contestant Qiao Sang truly doesn't look like a lower-tier Beast Tamer at all."
Fyodor marveled:
"What caught my attention was the synergy between Little Thunder Dragon and Contestant Qiao Sang. The command Contestant Qiao Sang issued was 'strike the fire wall,' without specifying which fire wall to strike. Yet Little Thunder Dragon was able to understand her intent instantly, discharging lightning toward the fire wall surrounding Shell Snail. The synergy between them is just like Beast Tamers and pets that have already formed contracts."
"Tie tie."
Tie Daoyi nodded in agreement.
"As a Dragon-type pet, Tingbao hasn't even used a single Dragon-type move yet, yet he could battle Shell Snail to this extent. Qiao Sang deserves immense credit." Fu Jian stated.
Fyodor said: "To be able to fight to a draw when there's a whole rank difference compared to Shell Snail..."
"Tie tie." Tie Daoyi interrupted.
Not a draw.
Both Fu Jian and Fyodor wore earpieces that helped translate Tie Daoyi's words in real-time.
Hearing the translation inside, the two stopped talking and looked toward the field.
They saw that Shell Snail was already unconscious with its eyes closed, while silver-white light surged across Tingbao's body as he struggled to stand up without falling over.
"Lei lei..."
Tingbao looked at his fallen opponent in the distance, and the silver-white light on his body vanished.
An even noisier clamor than before abruptly erupted in the spectator stands: "Look quickly! Little Thunder Dragon stood up!"
"Multiscale! It's the Multiscale trait!"
"Holy cow, I thought a draw was impressive enough, but Little Thunder Dragon actually won directly!"
"Shell Snail is a bit pitiful. If it hadn't executed such a dense Flame Wall or set up a Flame Wall around itself, it wouldn't have lost this match."
"You're being a bit hindsight-wise here. Just now when you saw Shell Snail's Flame Wall formed so densely, you said it had the potential to be a champion."
"What? Who said that? I certainly didn't say that."
"..."
In the guest panel area.
"It's Multiscale." Fyodor said.
Fu Jian picked up the thread: "A trait of Dragon-type pets, when at full health, damage taken is halved."
"Tie tie."
Tie Daoyi looked toward Qiao Sang, letting out a call filled with admiration.
"So Little Thunder Dragon has this trait! No wonder Contestant Qiao Sang's expression remained so calm when seeing such a dense Flame Wall. It seems she knew long ago that Little Thunder Dragon could endure a single attack from Shell Snail." Fu Jian continued.
Green light illuminated on the half-field beneath Qiao Sang's feet.
Only at this point did the camera shift to other fields.
Even so, up in the spectator stands, the gazes of many people and pets still rested on Tingbao and Qiao Sang.
The Multiscale trait! Qiao Sang's eyes lit up.
She originally thought this match would end in a tie, but to think Tingbao actually possessed the Multiscale trait, and Shell Snail was directly stripped of its battle capacity in the shockwave, allowing her to win the match outright.
Sure enough, certain traits of a pet rely on battles to be triggered!
Not having data from a Beast Codex is indeed somewhat inconvenient. I wonder if Tingbao has any other traits...
"Lei lei."
Tingbao turned his head, moving his body as he crawled over.
Once Tingbao crawled onto her neck, Qiao Sang reined in her thoughts and praised: "Job well done."
"Lei lei."
The corners of Tingbao's mouth curled up, displaying a This is no big deal expression.
---
Exiting the stadium, Qiao Sang sat on Yabao's back and took to the sky.
She wanted to pull out her phone to watch the live stream of Qingbao's tournament, but when she reached into her pocket, her hand felt empty. Only then did she recall that her phone had been given to Little Treasure.
I wonder if it's Qingbao's turn to compete yet...
At this moment, Mikayla said: "Test the level of Tingbao's Multiscale trait once we get back."
For Multiscale, if the level is low, the trigger probability is low, if the level is high, the trigger probability is high.
"How do we test this?" Qiao Sang asked.
"The level of a trait cannot be measured by equipment. It can only be done through the simplest method, having Tingbao battle when he's in peak condition. It will take at least a hundred battles to test it out." Mikayla answered.
"Alright." Qiao Sang nodded.
Tingbao said nothing, signaling he had no objections.
"Yap yap?"
Suddenly, Yabao let out a bark, asking when Little Treasure and Qingbao would be back.
Truth be told, Little Treasure had the most lively personality among all his companions, and he had spent the longest time with him as well. Without Little Treasure by his side, he felt quite unaccustomed to it.
"Once Qingbao's tournament ends, they will come back." Qiao Sang said.
"Yap yap?"
Yabao asked inquiringly.
When will Qingbao's tournament end then?
I don't know either... Qiao Sang sensed in her mind. Realizing that at this distance they were definitely still in another city, she looked toward Teacher Mikayla and asked: "Could I borrow your phone for a moment?"
Without asking a thing, Mikayla handed her phone over.
Qiao Sang accepted it and searched for the live streaming platform of the Ultimate High-level Pet Championship.
Just as she was searching, the phone suddenly vibrated repeatedly.
A contact saved under the name Debt Collector Dragon sent several voice messages over.
Looks like an urgent matter... Qiao Sang couldn't help but pause her movements, handing the phone back as she said: "Teacher, someone saved as 'Debt Collector Dragon' sent you voice messages."
The corners of Mikayla's mouth twitched as she stated: "Ignore it for now."
Qiao Sang resumed searching for the tournament platform.
However, the phone vibrations were endless, with the background constantly displaying voice messages sent over by "Debt Collector Dragon."
Qiao Sang paused her movements once again and handed the phone over: "Maybe you should take a look first. The other party seems to be in a big hurry, sending messages continuously."
Without any change in her expression, Mikayla accepted the phone, opened the chat dialog, and without listening to any of those voice messages, directly transferred a large sum of money over.
The phone instantly fell silent, the other party sent no further voice messages.
With a tranquil expression, Mikayla handed the phone back, saying: "All set."
I wonder who this 'Debt Collector Dragon' is. It feels like Professor Mikayla can't stand the other party, yet can't do anything about them either... Looking at the saved name, could it be a Dragon-type pet that knows how to use a phone just like Little Treasure...
While grumbling internally, Qiao Sang accepted the phone, tapped into the tournament platform, and found that the competition was still underway.
Battles between High-level pets were naturally more demanding than those between Low-level or Mid-level pets, so it was only reasonable that it hadn't concluded yet.
Qiao Sang flipped through the edited highlight clips below, wanting to see if Qingbao had already competed.
Mikayla suddenly spoke up: "I recall you gave your phone to the Night Ring King. You can just call him directly.
That makes sense... Qiao Sang exited the page and dialed her own number.
After two beeps, the call went through.
"Xun xun~"
Little Treasure's voice transmitted through the speaker.
Qiao Sang cut straight to the chase: "Is Qingbao's tournament over yet?"
"Xun..." Little Treasure had only uttered a single word when the other end of the line switched to Qingbao's sweet voice: "Qing qing~"
The match had already concluded, but the other contestants' matches weren't over yet. She wanted to finish watching at the venue before returning with Little Treasure.
"Did you win?" Qiao Sang asked.
"Qing qing."
Qingbao let out a call, indicating that of course she won.
"Alright."
Qiao Sang suspected nothing, saying: "Then return after you and Little Treasure finish watching the matches."
"Qing qing~"
Qingbao called out sweetly and hung up the phone.
To think Qingbao, at such a young age, actually knew to stay behind to watch the matches and study her opponents... Qiao Sang felt deeply gratified as she returned the phone to Teacher Mikayla.
---
Simultaneously.
Hasman.
In a commercial street lined with various stalls on both sides.
"Xun xun~"
Taking back the phone, Little Treasure gave Qingbao a thumbs-up.
"Qing qing."
Qingbao displayed a proud expression that clearly said, You still have a lot to learn.
"Xun xun..."
Soon, however, Little Treasure grew worried again.
Is it really okay to trick their Beast Tamer like this...
"Qing qing."
Qingbao put on a Don't worry expression and let out a call.
"Qing qing?"
Immediately after, she asked another question.
How much money do you still have left?
Taking off his ring, Little Treasure pulled out a stack of cash.
Qingbao took a glance, walked over to a skewered meat stall, and called out grandly: "Qing qing."
Gimme ten skewers!

thanks for the chapter
ReplyDeleteLmaooo Qingbao and Little Treasure really shouldn’t have been left alone. Also lol is Debt Collector Dragon her dragon type pet?
ReplyDeleteIts sometimes hard to remember, but most of her pets are actually just super powerful children. Even the oldest has only been alive for two or three years at most. So its understandable when they want to act up occasionally.
ReplyDeleteGlad everything got sorted and welcome back! Thanks for the chapter
ReplyDeleteS-so sad... Debt collector Dragon. Mikayla... You had it hard huh?
ReplyDeleteThank you for the chapter!!
