"Qing qing!"
Qingbao's expression warped drastically. Her breath hitched as a violent gale whipped up, slamming the front door shut with a loud bang.
Following that, she swiftly drifted over to the furthest possible corner from the door, inhaling deep gulps of fresh air as if she had just endured an odor beyond human tolerance.
Qingbao's standards for air quality are truly getting higher and higher... Witnessing this scene, Qiao Sang silently massaged her forehead.
Ding dong~
Right at that moment, the doorbell rang once more.
Qiao Sang rose to her feet and walked toward the entrance.
Qingbao's face shifted, and she transformed into a gust of wind, vanishing on the spot.
The moment Qiao Sang swung the door open, a foul stench reminiscent of rotting flowers instantly rushed into her nostrils.
Back in Secret Realm No. 88,the very realm where Lubao had purified the sewage, she had already caught a whiff of an earth-shattering stench. Consequently, her tolerance for foul odors was exceptionally high by now.
While the smell radiating from Meichouni's body was indeed unpleasant, to a Qiao Sang who had survived an earth-shattering stench, it was merely a bit unpleasant.
Her expression unchanged, Qiao Sang stated with an apologetic face: "I'm very sorry, a sudden gust of wind slammed the door closed just now. Is there something you need?"
"Mei mei..."
Meichouni stared at the human before her eyes, completely dazed.
The girl's expression was completely tranquil. She wasn't like other people who, even if they forced a smile on their faces, still couldn't conceal the trace of open disgust in their eyes.
"Mei mei."
Steadying her focus, Meichouni offered a sweet smile and extended the bouquet of flowers forward.
"For me?" Qiao Sang pointed to herself, thoroughly surprised.
"Mei mei."
Meichouni nodded her head.
Accepting it with a smile, Qiao Sang replied: "Thank you."
"Mei mei." Meichouni let out a cheerful call, then turned around, preparing to depart.
"Wait a moment." Qiao Sang called out.
Meichouni's body stiffened, the two leaves atop her head instinctively snapping taut.
Could it be that this human discovered something...
Qiao Sang turned and stepped into the kitchen, returning shortly after with a few berries on hand. Extending them toward Meichouni, she spoke in a warm tone: "These are Changneng Berries. Eating them can boost your energy a bit. You can take them back and try some."
"Mei mei..."
Meichouni stared blankly at the human holding out the berries before her.
Seeing that she wasn't accepting them, Qiao Sang inquired: "Do you not like them?"
"Mei mei!"
Meichouni hurriedly shook her head, accepted the berries, and offered a deep bow before turning and running off.
Upon returning to her villa, Meichouni retrieved a clean plate to set the berries down. She then made her way to the room completely covered in photographs.
Switching on the light, she fixed her gaze upon one specific photograph.
Black hair, black eyes, tied up into a high ponytail, with a pair of slightly upturned phoenix eyes, it was precisely Qiao Sang.
"Mei mei..."
Meichouni stared at the photograph for a couple of seconds. As if having reached a definitive resolution, the two leaves atop her head suddenly transformed into a pair of vine whips, tearing down all the other remaining photographs from the wall one by one.
Very quickly, only Qiao Sang's photograph was left remaining on the walls of the room.

The villa.
Qiao Sang casually slipped the flowers into a vase.
A somewhat turbulent gust of wind swept past, swirling up the bouquet inside and carrying it right out the window, dumping it carelessly onto the open clearing outside.
"Ting ting..."
Tingbao channeled his energy, rows of yellow electrical arcs constantly surfacing across his body.
Suddenly, a foul odor drifted into his nose.
Tingbao creased his brow and halted his training. Sniffing with his nose, he followed the scent and shuffled over to the bouquet's side.
He lowered his head, leaning in close to take a sniff.
Once he verified that the smell was indeed originating from this bouquet, Tingbao whipped his tail upward, condensing a streak of silver-white light before swinging it out with full force.
The flowers were instantly launched high into the upper atmosphere, turning into a tiny speck of starlight before vanishing without a trace.
"Xun xun~"
Little Treasure materialized right beside Tingbao, flashing a thumbs-up and letting out a call.
Job well done.
Tingbao cast a glance at him but offered no response, turning his head away to crawl over to another section to continue releasing his lightning energy.
Little Treasure: ...

The living room.
Mikayla sat on the sofa, suddenly blurting out a sentence out of nowhere: "That Meichouni has likely set its sights on you."
Qiao Sang: ???
Mikayla continued, "It's wearing a black lightweight miniature bracelet, lives in a villa within this specific district, and has gone out of its way to bring you flowers two days in a row. It most likely wants you to become its Beast Tamer."
"No way." Qiao Sang disagreed.
"It might just be trying to establish a good relationship with the neighbors."
"Do you know why pets can afford to buy houses through bank loans?" Mikayla asked.
This transition of topics is a bit too fast... Qiao Sang shook her head and said: "I don't know."
"The banks carry out evaluations based on a pet's species and talent." Mikayla explained.
"As long as a pet possesses talent and can evolve, it can easily live to an age ordinary humans can never reach. Furthermore, a talented pet doesn't have to worry about lacking a contractor. Therefore, a massive number of pets take out loans to buy real estate nowadays."
"Does a pet that buys a house absolutely have to find someone to contract with?" Qiao Sang asked.
Mikayla pondered for a brief moment before stating, "For the vast majority of wild pets, that is indeed the case. After purchasing a house, wild pets either earn money themselves to service the mortgage, or if they find themselves unable to pay, they can apply to the bank to settle it by completing certain tasks for the bank every month."
"However, the tasks issued by the bank monthly are never simple. Over the long term, wild pets can't endure it, so they start looking to secure a Beast Tamer."
"Meichouni purchased a property in this specific district, so its mortgage won't be low. It should be very eager to secure a Beast Tamer for itself right about now."
Pausing for a moment, she smiled, "When a Meichouni looks for a Beast Tamer, the very first individuals it considers are the residents of this villa area. It brought you flowers two days in a row; is its intention still not obvious enough?"
It isn't obvious, I completely failed to see it. Isn't this just a purely friendly relationship between neighbors...
Qiao Sang felt that Professor Mikayla was overthinking things a bit, but she ultimately refrained from voicing that thought, stating instead: "It's not any major issue anyway. Once it realizes I don't have an available contract slot, it will probably give up."
Immediately following that, she thought of something and guessed: "You noted that the banks evaluate them based on their species and talent. Since Meichouni was able to secure a loan to buy a house here, does that mean its talent is exceptionally high?"
Mikayla shot a glance at her: "What, is your heart swayed?"
"How could that be possible." Qiao Sang hurriedly countered.
"I already have Tingbao, how could I possibly take a liking to another pet."
"Don't speak too soon."
Mikayla cast a glance at Tingbao, who was currently training outside the French windows, and stated in a heavy tone, "I'm still holding onto my prior statement. The event you are set to participate in is the Interstellar Cup, and every single contract slot is of paramount importance. Tingbao is undeniably good, but he isn't a pureblood. It isn't entirely impossible for you to run into a pet even better than Tingbao, especially in a place like Flame Star."
"The autonomous choice of pets here is exceptionally high. Pets with high racial ceilings hold elevated status, and their right to choose is correspondingly higher. If word gets out among them that you became a B-rank Beast Tamer at the age of 17, I believe a great number of wild pets will go wild for you, desperate to form a contract with you."
Hearing these words, Qiao Sang remained entirely unshaken. She stated with a solemn expression: "I only want to contract with Tingbao."
Tingbao was a pet she had personally watched hatch from an egg. If she harbored even a shred of reluctance regarding contracting with him, she wouldn't have brought him along to Flame Star in the first place.
The way wild pets on Flame Star went about scouting for Beast Tamers felt way too much like a transactional partnership to get by in life, and she didn't care for it.

Oh I thought the stinky neighbor was killing people lmao... its only selecting beast tamer candidates
ReplyDeletethanks for the chapter. probably dungeon isekai try to be like lazy dungeon master sleeping all day.
ReplyDeleteI prefer dungeon regression, Isekai feel too disconnected from the world and regression stories usually have higher stakes for the protagonist.
