“!!!”
Mikayla stared at the crimson star array before her, pupils shrinking, shaken to the core.
Her mind, usually calm and rational, went completely blank.
The sight before her was too fantastical, too unreal.
Qiao Sang’s brain domain… had broken through 50%?!
And in just a single day?!
Without the slightest warning!
“Yap?”
Yabao looked at his Beast Master, still remembering what happened earlier, tilting his head with a confused call, wasn’t there still something to do?
A crimson star array… my brain domain really broke through… Qiao Sang thought of the color she had just seen. The corners of her lips couldn’t help lifting into a broad smile.
“Yap?”
Seeing his Beast Master’s strange expression, Yabao had no choice but to call again.
Qiao Sang snapped back to herself, coughed, and said, “It’s done. You can go train now.”
“Yap…”
Done?
Done with what?
Yabao’s face turned puzzled, but in the end, his eagerness to train won out.
He gathered energy, creating a hundred clones at once, threw open the door, and rushed out in a frenzy.
Such a spectacular scene didn’t catch Mikayla’s attention at all. She was still stunned by the crimson star array she had witnessed.
Truth be told, a red star array only required the Beast Master’s brain domain to reach 50%.
For ordinary Beast Masters, that was a chasm, a wall they could never cross in their lifetime.
But for Mikayla, it had only ever been a matter of time.
She had risen to fame young, hailed as Eagle Country's once-in-a-century genius. She awakened on her own at ten years old, her brain domain’s breakthroughs as smooth as eating or drinking water.
By the age of thirty, she reached 50%, a level most people struggled against their whole lives, becoming the pride of her entire family.
Almost everyone around her had been geniuses as well. Even if they hadn’t reached 50% as quickly as she had, they had all broken through before becoming grandparents.
Later, when she became a mentor at the Imperial Beast University, she encountered even more prodigies in every field.
She knew well: Geniuses weren’t rare in this world. Many shone in their early or middle years, only to be surpassed later by those once weaker than them.
Some geniuses even grew old and died, while she still retained her youth.
So, she never truly held the so-called geniuses in special regard.
But Qiao Sang… was something else entirely.
To describe this child with just the word genius was far too shallow.
When Mikayla had first read Qiao Sang’s records, she knew this child was born for beast taming.
No one could train a General-level pet to develop a Super-tier skill, except through rare innate talents.
Yet Qiao Sang had done it, twice.
Not only that, she had nurtured two pets into entirely new evolutionary forms, unseen in the history of the Alliance.
Not stalled halfway evolutions either, but smooth, complete transformations, as if the paths had always been meant to be.
Mikayla had mentally prepared herself before officially becoming Qiao Sang’s mentor.
But reality surpassed her imagination.
50% brain domain, at not even eighteen years old.
She had broken through more than a decade faster than Mikayla had herself.
This wasn’t genius. This was monstrous.
No… beyond monstrous.
She didn’t know how long had passed before she finally broke free from her shock. Her gaze turned complicated as she asked: “Your brain domain broke through to 50%?”
Finally, you asked… Qiao Sang straightened proudly, voice firm: “Mm!”
Mikayla inhaled deeply, steadied her emotions, and asked, “How did you break through?”
“I told you, because of the Sawtooth Dragon.”
Qiao Sang vividly recounted, “It was wandering around the course aimlessly, so I suggested it check out the Flight Tournament. To my surprise, it agreed! Oh, that was actually Little Treasure’s suggestion. My ideas weren’t its favorite…”
“Xun~”
Little Treasure puffed up with pride, nodding.
Something Qiao Sang could’ve explained in a minute stretched into ten as she enthusiastically detailed every word exchanged with the dragon.
Mikayla listened intently, like a student hanging on a teacher’s lesson about pet beasts.
When Qiao Sang finally finished, Mikayla fell silent for a long time before confirming: “You’re saying… you fell from the sky, the shock to your brain made you break through to 50%?”
“Yes.” Qiao Sang nodded.
Mikayla went silent again, then asked once more: “Nothing else happened? No other factors while you were falling? You weren’t just too tense to notice?”
“No.” Qiao Sang shook her head.
A third silence.
Mikayla simply couldn’t digest this.
Falling from the sky could certainly stimulate the brain. But to push a 49% brain domain to 50%? Impossible.
If it were that easy, wouldn’t every Beast Master be leaping from the skies daily?
After trying to process it for a long while and failing, Mikayla finally stood up.
“Get some rest. I… will return to my room.”
“Okay. You too, Teacher.” Qiao Sang replied politely.
Mikayla rose, dazed, opened the door, and left.
---
After seeing her teacher off, Qiao Sang excitedly turned to Little Treasure.
“Bring out the laptop!”
“Xun~”
Little Treasure removed the ring and quickly retrieved the laptop.
Qiao Sang powered it on, logged into the Imperial Beast University’s official site, and entered the Imperial Class page.
She remembered last time, in the points exchange section, there had been many rare beasts and beast eggs available.
She hadn’t looked closely before, since her brain domain hadn’t broken through.
Now it had, so she had to carefully study what kind of pet to contract as her fifth.
Dragon-types were strong, top of the food chain, offensively and defensively unmatched. But costly in both time and money.
Still, with her current savings, raising one was feasible.
Electric-types were also appealing. Their offensive power was overwhelming, and with only Yabao as her primary attacker, a lightning-type could cover her weaknesses in the Interstellar Cup.
Mechanical-types… no. Not now. Their functions were incredible, like the Department's mech-beast that could deliver acceptance letters across star systems.
But raising one to Interstellar Cup standards would require devoting almost all her time to mechanical studies, leaving little for her other pets.
In Alliance history, no top competitor had ever relied on mechanical-types in the Cup.
Maybe in the future, but not yet.
Excited yet rational, she clicked open the beasts-for-points section.
Rows of rare beasts and eggs appeared:
[Name: Ashfire Dragon
Type: Beast
Details: Purebred Ashfire Dragon. Emperor-level race potential. Dual fire/dragon-attribute initial pet. Enjoys devouring flames.
Note: When enraged, enters uncontrollable frenzy. Highly intelligent. If you cannot handle its violent temper, redeem with caution.
Points: 500,000]
A pure dragon, Emperor potential, initial stage. Definitely trainable, but… fire clashed with Yabao’s type, and half a million points? Way out of reach. She glanced at her meager four-digit balance and scrolled past without pause.
[Name: Little Psych Egg
Type: Beast Egg
Details: Purebred Little Psych. Imperial-level potential. Psychic-type. Extremely intelligent, capable of merging with nature and masking its presence.
Note: Requires two years to hatch. Personality unknown.
Points: 400,000]
A Psychic-type… but Yabao and Little Treasure already had Psychic as sub-attributes. With Little Treasure’s proficiency, another full Psychic-type wasn’t necessary.
She shook her head and continued.
[Name: Venomshard Dragon
Type: Beast
Details: Purebred Venomshard Dragon. Emperor-level potential. Dual poison/dragon-attribute initial pet. Absorbs sunlight to generate dragon energy.
Note: Extremely aggressive. Spits venom at any intruder, but shows special fondness for other poison-types. If you already own one, it may bond quickly.
Points: 500,000]
Purebred. Emperor. Poison and dragon dual-type. Her heart pounded madly.
But then she saw the price.
Five hundred thousand.
Not fifty. Not five.
Five. Hundred. Thousand.
She didn’t even have ten thousand. By the time she could earn enough, she’d be ancient.
Scrolling further only chilled her more.
Every option was forty to eighty times her entire points balance. All rare, all purebred, all impossible.
Her excitement deflated into despair.
---
Meanwhile...
Five kilometers from the Beast Center, on an empty plain.
Mikayla formed seals with both hands.
A massive golden star array flared.
From it emerged a birdlike beast, about a meter tall, mostly white, with wings like jet turbines.
“To ten thousand meters.” Mikayla ordered.
After a pause, she added, “Don’t enlarge.”
“Prnn.”
The jet-winged beast rubbed its drowsy eyes, nodded, and moved beside its master.
Mikayla wrapped her arms around its neck.
The beast looked skyward. Then, in a flash of brilliant white, it soared like a rocket.
“What the heck is that?!”
Many people saw the streak of white and whipped out their phones. But by the time they opened their cameras, the light was gone.
At ten thousand meters, Mikayla looked down.
“When I near the ground, catch me.”
“Prnn.”
The beast nodded.
She let go.
Plummeting.
Her expression was calm. No fear. Only a flicker of anticipation.
Near the ground, a white streak caught her, steady as a cradle.
“Prnn.”
The beast set her gently on the earth.
Mikayla checked her brain domain, then sighed.
“As I thought. This method doesn’t work.”
The beast yawned.

Next morning.
Above Flight Tournament Zone B.
Fang Lan stared at Qiao Sang, once, twice, thrice.
“What are you staring at?” She asked, annoyed.
“You… look different.” She said honestly.
When a Beast Master’s brain domain hit 50%, the Beast Codex gained another page, their lifespan extended, but the most visible change was in appearance.
White hair turned black, wrinkles vanished, age reversed ten years.
Qiao Sang was still young, so instead of younger, her skin had become smoother, her features more refined, her aura carrying a subtle nobility.
Such was the metamorphosis of the 50% mark.
“Maybe because my brain domain broke through yesterday.” Qiao Sang said casually.
Fang Lan laughed.
“No breakthrough changes someone that much, unless it was a major one.”
Breakthroughs from 29 to 30, 49 to 50, 59 to 60, those were major.
Qiao Sang only smiled, not explaining.
Must be a pet breakthrough, Fang Lan thought. Pets’ progress sometimes reflected directly on their masters.
But since she had entered the Regional Tournament, she was technically her rival. It made sense she’d conceal details.
Still, she had only completed four missions so far. At this pace, she wasn’t much of a threat.
---
The Flight Tournament proceeded in orderly fashion.
Qiao Sang’s duty was Zone B, the inner arena, free from the outer tracks. Nothing happened.
The third day was the same.
After bidding Fang Lan goodbye, Qiao Sang had Little Treasure teleport her back to the Beast Center. She submitted her mission just before closing.
The task passed smoothly.
That night, after packing lightly, she and Mikayla set out for Jiantian City.

Wait, I thought there was some pet she wanted In The secret realm?
ReplyDeleteI recall something about a compass that can lead to it, otherwise it was super hard to find…
Thanks so much for the translations. I just have a question: in the novel, did they just start calling them Pokémon? Or is that a translation decision?
ReplyDeleteI think this novel is Pokémon inspired as they do use similar names for moves
